Celia Gossow is a BFA Photography candidate with minors in Film/Video and Art History at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Her current work focuses on perceptions of the female body and her own position within a longstanding heteronormative and misogynist society. Through explorations of alternative printing and developing processes, Gossow’s self-portraiture questions the ethics of reproduction and the biological expectations of the female form. Born a middle child, Celia’s work often forces viewers to pay attention and interact with the work, even if the topic is taboo or the imagery is uncomfortable. Celia is a performer who thrives on experimentation and play. Her work both abides by and shatters the rules of traditional photography by combining advanced technical processes and experimental elements. By pushing the boundaries of gaze, conflict, and discomfort, Gossow’s work crituques standardaized structures of the modern and archaic world.
Outside of the studio, Celia is fruitless gardener, and restless redesigner. Born and raised Missouri, Celia is an urban cowgirl and will receed into the woods if necessary.
